The tradition of the bride and groom giving wedding favors to their guest is a long running practice believed to have been started hundreds of years ago in Europe. At that time cheap wedding favors were not very common as the practice was reserved for mostly the wealthy, who would give their guest finely made boxes with delicious treasures inside.
